Ranger Challenge

Ranger Challenge is a physically and mentally challenging competition held at Camp Bullis, Texas consisting of the following:

*** Army Physical Fitness Test
*** Patrolling Exam
*** Weapons Assembly / Disassembly
*** Grenade Assault Course
*** One Rope Bridge
*** Orienteering
*** 10K (6.2 Mile) "Ruck" Run (35lb Rucksack)

The Ranger Challenge Team consists of only six cadets with one alternate, so tryouts are very competitive. Practice begins at the beginning of the fall semester and is extremely rigorous, time demanding, and intense.  Only the very elite of ROTC can pass these physical and mental challenges.

  Bataan Death March

The Bataan Death March Competition  is a memorial to a special group of heroes from World  War II.  This is a grueling 26.2 mile march through the deserts of White Sands, New Mexico.  The team starts preparing for this event in the early spring by doing several road marches, running stairs, and having physically intense Physical Fitness Training sessions.

Ranger Company

Ranger Company is a legacy organization that prepares ROTC cadets for the leadership challenges which lay before them in their army careers. Training in the Ranger Co. consist of physical endurance and tactical maneuvers.  These battle skills are then put into practice at our Field Training Exercises (FTX).

Each new class begins with the semester long pledgeship, called “grunting,” in which the physical and mental limits of each new candidate are tested.  Physical training is a paramount part of Ranger Company and is conducted on a weekly basis. During the meetings you will learn army tactics and get a chance to practice them.   At the end of the semester every grunt must pass a physical test (APFT, 5 mile run, and 12 mile road march), a written test, and go before a board of active  members in order for admission.  It is the hardest program to attain acceptance into here at Tech ROTC.

Pershing Rifles

The purpose of the National Society of Pershing Rifles is to develop, to the highest degree possible, outstanding traits of leadership, military science, military bearing, and discipline within the framework of a military oriented, honorary fraternity.

The National Society of Pershing Rifles is the only nationwide organization that exists in the Army ROTC program.  It teaches the basics of un-armed and armed drill as well as learning to toss and spin a World War II era M-1 rifle.  We live up to our motto that, “Self-discipline is forged by the intensity of drill.”

The Tech ROTC Pershing Rifles team are experts with the M-1 rifle and less than 10% of the cadet corps are actively involved on the team because of the eligibility requirements. If you think you can make the requirements and are up for the challenge of learning self discipline and drill and ceremonies, call the ROTC office at 742-214.
